About Diane...

Diane Meholick was born and raised in North Tonawanda, NY, a suburb of Buffalo, NY. After graduating from North Tonawanda Senior High School, she attended Medaille College where she received simultaneous degrees - a B.S. in Communications and a B.A. in Humanities.

Her first novel, A SWITCH IN TIME, was published in December 2000. Her second novel, PAINTING KATHERINE, followed three years later in April 2003. And her short story collection, BUFFALO STORIES, was published by Outskirts Press in December of 2006. If you click on the Works tab, you can learn more about these books.

A Western New Yorker at heart, Diane lives near Buffalo, NY.

Synopsis:

In the city of Buffalo, NY, lives a diverse and eclectic population of people. You will meet some of these people in “Buffalo Stories.” There is Seever Dilliard, a drug addict who can't seem to climb out of the hole he's dug for himself. And Gwen Davignon, a photographer and recovering alcoholic, who's in love with her best friend and afraid to tell her so. There is Amy Ashton, whose Obsessive Compulsive Disorder prevents her from getting over John Lennon's murder. And gamblers Craig Wyatt and Sam Flannery, who both turn out to be completely different than Ezekiel Waarchinski believes they are. You will meet a painter named Daniel who is struggling with his love for a married woman. Lastly, you will meet Casey Castiglione and Kira Nailor, whose new-found friendship puts them on a surprising path.

Buffalo Stories is a well crafted collection of 10 short stories revolving around people in the Queen City. If you weren’t from Buffalo, you’d recognize the city from afar after reading this collection. Buffalo Stories is rich in descriptively textured narratives – recounting life lessons, some closer to home than others. Put abstractly, the essence of Buffalo Stories is comparable in nature to the beast that controls every idiosyncratic society, human nature. From problems associated with alcoholism and other vices, relationships to suicidal thoughts and introspection this book has it all. Diane is an intense, passionate storyteller. Her words caress the transcendent notion of love and addiction and the desire of them.

Diane doesn't pull punches in BUFFALO STORIES - people die, they break up, they have hard lives. Kinda like Buffalo.

Synopsis:

Washington, D.C. artist Vincent Vermay's world is unraveling. He can no longer paint. He no longer understands his wife Kate. When Kate inherits an old Victorian in North Tonawanda, NY from her grandmother Katherine Malloy, Vincent falls in love with the house and moves in. Kate remains in D.C. and the separation strains the marriage further. On the Victorian's third floor, Vincent discovers a magical violin that takes him back in time to 1926, where he meets twenty-year-old Katherine Malloy. Katherine has given up her career as a concert violinist to marry Jethro Malloy, an abusive man. Katherine's beauty inspires Vincent to start painting again. He returns to the past several times to paint her portrait. Vincent also meets actor Norman Lassiter, who loves Katherine so much, that he quits acting and turns businessman, partnering with others to build a grand theatre in North Tonawanda. The author's first novel, 'A Switch in Time,' was a good one. I liked it because it was based on real historical people and an interesting switch in time of one of them. 'Painting Katherine' is very good, too. The town is real. The theater exists; and Vincent is a sweetheart who faces tragedy, or possible happiness, for himself and others in both time periods. What will he do? What can he do? Every day I looked forward to reading on--and finished in three days!

Excellent Second Novel! If you haven't read this new talented writer it's time. Get a first edition while you still can -- for fans of mystery and the magical fantasy of time travel -- this is one not to be missed. When you've finished and see what I'm talking about do yourself another favor and read the author's debut novel 'A Switch in Time'.

Synopsis:

While portraying John Wilkes Booth in a play at Ford's Theatre, actor Roger Eberth switches places in time with John Wilkes Booth at the exact moment that Abraham Lincoln is shot. In the future, Booth is held captive by Rogers fiancee, Camille Merce, who enlists the aid of physicist Ernesto Marquez in hopes of switching Roger and Booth back. If you like time travel, history, or the Civil War, "A Switch in Time" has all three. Before and after actor Roger Eberth and Booth switch places in time, there is plenty happening in both eras to keep you turning the pages. I found myself worried about Roger but intrigued by Booth and interested in the history. My neighbor, a retired teacher, found "A Switch in Time" to be a page turner, also, and was impressed with the inclusion and accuracy of Booth's escape route, as well as other historical references. We both highly recommend this book.

If you like history and time travel, you'll love this story. It has well rounded characters and a believable plot. The story of John Wilkes Booth is shown in a different light. With it's unique plot twists, this book will keep you hooked.

Hey, Everyone,

I hope you are all doing well. I'm vacationing in Colorado. I always call it God's Country. The mountains are amazing. The wildlife abounds. The other day, I was driving on Hwy 9 and spotted a magnificent buffalo walking on the shoulder of the road. I didn't want to scare him so I slowed down and veered out around him. He just kept plodding along, perfectly content. Now, you don't see that where I live. That's for sure. John Denver said it best. Rocky Mountain High in Colorado.

So 2022 has come and gone. I am amazed at how fast the year went. I must also admit that life commitments got in the way of my writing this year. I've decided that I can't let that happen again this year. I've begun a novel, working title is WHAT HAPPENED IN HEDDONBARROW. My plan is to finish at least the first draft in 2023. I have to fit the writing in around my full time job and some other obligations but I am determined this year. Wish me luck. Diane
